A Casual Approach To Business
When played at the highest level business is intense and that’s a good thing. But once in a while you simply need to tone it down a bit in order to retain a bit of sanity.
In the past I’ve written about how I and my clients who ride take off during the day to work off some steam and then discuss business issues. But for those of you who don’t ride, there is another way.
I have a business partner with whom I’ve worked the past 20 plus years. We’re both involved in multiple businesses – some at the same time and others separately. And as with any long term business relationship, we have intense conversations multiple times a week about the issues we’re facing. But once in a while we change it up.
Instead of the boardroom we’ll meet at a good restaurant for dinner or a late Friday lunch when both of our calendars are clear and enjoy a glass of wine with our meal. It takes the edge off our discussions and allows for a more mellow approach. And being associated with good times, it also helps us to remember and celebrate what we’ve accomplished.
To be sure the ‘3 Martini Lunches’ of the past are gone and rightfully so. But don’t forget to treat yourself once in a while, even in the middle of the day. After all, what are we doing this for if not to enjoy the fruits of our labor? (No wine pun intended)
So indulge a bit, you deserve it.
